You may receive an error message when you use the Microsoft Oracle Managed Provider against an Oracle database

SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario. You use the Microsoft Oracle Managed Provider 1.1 or the Microsoft Oracle Managed Provider 2.0 against an Oracle 8.x database or against an Oracle 9.x database. The Oracle 8.x database is earlier than version 8.1.7.3.0. The Oracle 9.x database is earlier than 9.0.1.3.0. In this scenario, you may receive one of the following error messages.
Error message 1
ORA-02041: client database did not begin a transaction
Error message 2
ORA-02074: cannot ROLLBACK in a distributed transaction
Error message 3
ORA-02074: cannot SET SAVEPOINT in a distributed transaction
Error message 4
ORA-02074: Cannot COMMIT in a distributed transaction
Error message 5
ORA-02074: cannot SET NLS in a distributed transaction
Back to the topCAUSE
This problem occurs because of a known Oracle database issue.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.
Method 1
Add the following property to the connection string for the Oracle database.
Workaround Oracle Bug 914652=true
Method 2
Update the Oracle 8.x database to version 8.1.7.3.0 or to a later version. Or, update the Oracle 9.x database to version 9.0.1.3.0 or to a later version.
