SYMPTOMS
| • | Click any of the buttons on the sidebar in Backup and Restore Center. |
| • | Modify the settings for Windows Firewall. |
| • | Modify the settings for Offline Files. |
Additionally, you do not receive a message or an error.
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
| • | The following Group Policy setting is configured to automatically deny elevation requests:

| • | You tried to perform a task that requires elevated user rights. |
WORKAROUND
Note If domain-level policy settings are defined, they override local policy settings. In this case, the policy setting must be changed at the domain level.
| 1. | Log on to Windows Vista by using administrative credentials. |
| 2. | Click Start. |
| 3. | In the Start Search box, type gepedit.msc. |
| 4. | In the search results, right-click gpedit, and then click Run as administrator. |
| 5. | If you are prompted, enter a password in the User Account Control dialog box, and then click OK, or click Continue. |
| 6. | Under Computer Configuration, expand Windows Settings, expand Security Settings, and then expand Local Policies. |
| 7. | Click Security Options, and then double-click User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for standard users. |
| 8. | In the list, click Prompt for credentials, and then click OK. |
| 9. | Exit Group Policy Object Editor. |
