When you try to install a Web Services on Devices (WSD)-based device on a Windows Vista-based computer over a secure channel, the installation is not completed successfully. You do not receive an error message when this problem occurs.

This problem occurs if the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the WSD-based device is longer than 48 characters. In this situation, there is an internal buffer that is used to generate the Plug and Play ID for the device. The size of this internal buffer is insufficient.

Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
