You start a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) connection to a Windows Vista-based operating system that has Microsoft Office Word 2007 installed. When you use Word 2007 in the RDP session, the insertion point does not blink in Word 2007. This problem occurs even if the value of the following registry key is set to 1 in the Windows Vista-based computer:

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

1. Install the Word 2007 hotfix package that is dated February 24, 2009. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

2. Set the CursorBlinkEnable registry entry. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. Start Registry Editor.
      • In Windows Vista, click Start

        , type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

        If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or provide confirmation.

      • In Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
   2. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE System CurrentControlSet Control TerminalServer

   3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
   4. Type CursorBlinkEnable, and then press ENTER:
   5. Right-click CursorBlinkEnable, and then click Modify.
   6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
   7. On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.
