Consider the following scenario:

• You install Microsoft Windows Installer 4.5 on a computer that is running one of the following operating systems:
  • Windows XP
  • Windows Server 2003
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows Server 2008
• On this computer, you have an .msi package that schedules a forced restart and some suspended installation actions. The suspended installation actions will be executed after the forced restart.
• You customize some properties for the installation before the forced restart. These changed properties will be used by the suspended installation actions.

In this scenario, the customized properties are reset to their default values after the forced restart. Therefore, the suspended installation actions work incorrectly.

The Windows Installer 4.5 engine incorrectly removes the pending install state during the forced restart. This action causes the customized properties to reset to their default values after the forced restart.

The MANIFEST (.manifest) and MUM (.mum) files installed for each environment are listed separately. MUM and MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are critical to maintaining the state of the updated component. The security catalog files, whose attributes not listed, are signed by using a Microsoft digital signature.
