After you upgrade Windows XP to Windows Vista, the contents previously in the My Music folder in Windows XP are not moved to the %UserProfile% Music folder in Windows Vista. Additionally, when you try to open the Music folder on the Start menu, you receive an access denied error.

This issue can occur when the following conditions are true:

·         The My Music registry entry is missing from the following registry subkey: HKEY_USERS .DEFAULT Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Explorer User Shell Folders

·          The shell folder is at the default location for regular system setups: %SystemDrive% Documents and Settings <UserName> My Documents My Music.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps before you run the Disk Cleanup Wizard:

1.       In Windows Vista, redirect the My Music folder to the %UserProfile% Music folder. To do this, follow these steps:

a.       Click Start, right-click Music, and then click Properties.

b.      Click the Location tab, enter %UserProfile% Music, and then click OK.

2.       Recover the contents. To do this, follow these steps:

a.        In Windows Explorer, locate the following folder: %SystemDrive% $INPLACE.~TR Machine DATA Documents and Settings <username> My Documents My Music

Note If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue

b.       Copy all relevant contents to the %UserProfile% Music folder.
