SYMPTOMS
On a Windows Vista-based client computer, you create many virtual private network (VPN) connections. In this situation, the Connect to a network dialog box takes a long time to appear when you perform one of the following actions:
| • | Click Start, and then click Connect To |
| • | Right-click the network icon in the taskbar, and then click Connect to a network |
Back to the topCAUSE
When you click Connect to a network, Windows Vista must retrieve all the properties of each phone-book entry. Windows Vista retrieves all locations and all dialing rules for each entry. Therefore, the Connect to a network dialog box takes a long time to appear if many phone-book entries (connectoids) are present.
RESOLUTION
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows Vista service pack that contains this hotfix.

A user or an administrator can use the Dial-Up Networking dialog box to create, to edit, and to dial phone-book entries.
