SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • Many snapshots of a volume are created on a Network File System (NFS) server.
  • You mount the NFS share on a Windows Server 2008-based NFS client.

In this scenario, when you try to perform directory listing of the NFS share, you may receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:

STOP: 0×00000050 (Parameter 1, Parameter 2, Parameter 3, Parameter 4)
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Note The four parameters in this error message may vary according to the computer’s configuration.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the buffer size is calculated incorrectly when the snapshots exist on the NFS server. When Nfssvr.sys file tries to query for the FileIdFullDirectoryInformation class information but sends the smaller buffer size to the NtQueryDirectoryFile function, this problem occurs.

RESOLUTION
