This article assumes that you are familiar with the programming language that is being demonstrated and with the tools that are used to create and to debug procedures. Microsoft support engineers can help explain the functionality of a particular procedure. However, they will not modify these examples to provide added functionality or construct procedures to meet your specific requirements.
To determine the language pack version information in a 2007 Office system deployment, you can use the sample Visual Basic for Applications script that is provided in this method. The sample Visual Basic script queries the Windows Installer program to provide the version of the installed products.

You must use a Visual Basic script to determine the language pack version if you deployed the language pack by copying the language pack files into the source image of the program that was being installed.

For example, you must use this method if you copied the language pack files into the Updates folder of the 2007 Microsoft Office Enterprise source image. This is because a language pack that is installed in this manner is not listed separately in the Add or Remove Programs feature in Control Panel.

To determine the version information for the installed language pack by using a Visual Basic script, follow these steps:

1.

Start Notepad.

2.

Copy and then paste the following sample Visual Basic script into Notepad.

                              oWI.ProductInfo(prod, "VersionString") & vbTab & _
                              oWI.ProductInfo(prod, "ProductName") & vbCrLf
Next
wscript.echo sOutput

3.

On the File menu, click Save. Save the script as a text file that is named “Off2007Ver.vbs,” and then exit Notepad.

4.

Double-click the Off2007Ver.vbs file.

Depending on the number of 2007 Office programs and of language packs that are installed, the sample Visual Basic script may create a long list that is displayed in a dialog box when the script is run. To make it easier to review the version information, we recommend that you use a command-line command to create an output text file that contains the version information.

All other Office templates are missing.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you upgrade Microsoft Office XP or earlier to Microsoft Office 2003 or later versions of Office, and not all the Office XP or earlier programs are upgraded or are removed. The most common cause of this problem is if Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 was installed with Office XP or earlier. When you upgrade to Office 2003 or later versions of Office and you use the Typical or Upgrade installation option, FrontPage 2003 is not installed. This problem may also occur if you use the Custom Install option during Office Setup, and instruct Setup not to upgrade or to remove a specific Office XP or earlier program. If Office XP or earlier programs are still present on your computer, the new Office shortcuts are not installed.

RESOLUTION

When you visit the Microsoft Office Online Web site to scan for updates for your Microsoft Office programs, Office Update may offer updates to programs that you do not have installed on your computer. Or, you may be prompted to insert the CD for an earlier version of Microsoft Office.

For example, you may be offered updates for Microsoft Office 2003 as an upgrade over Microsoft Office XP Pro. Or, you may be prompted to provide the Office XP CD so that the Setup program can access the ProPlus.msi file.

To look for updates, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate/default.aspx (http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate/default.aspx)

CAUSE

Scenario 1
This behavior may occur when you upgrade the Microsoft Office programs from one Office version to another.

In this scenario, some components may be left on the computer from the earlier version. For example, by default, if you install Microsoft Office 2000 Premium or Office XP Pro Plus, Microsoft FrontPage 2000 or Microsoft FrontPage 2002 is respectively installed.

When you upgrade to Microsoft Office 2003, the earlier version of Microsoft FrontPage may be left on the computer because FrontPage is not upgraded by Office 2003. Additionally, FrontPage is not removed by the upgrade.

Therefore, some Microsoft Office components are left on the computer. When you visit Office Update and scan for updates, the components from the earlier version may be found, and any updates for that version may be offered to you to install.

Scenario 2
By default, this behavior may occur when updates become available for components that may not be installed. Additionally, this behavior may occur when users choose not to install certain components.

The Office Update detection program checks for installed products. The program makes recommendations for updates for any part of all installed Office products. For example, the English version of Microsoft Office only installs the English language proofing tools unless you have customized your installation.

When you visit Office Update and then you scan for updates, the update for the French language proofing tool is recommended if there is an update to the French proofing tool. This recommendation is made regardless of whether the French proofing tool is installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve the issue that is described in Scenario 1, remove the earlier Office components that you do not want on your computer. To do this, follow these steps:

4.

In the Currently installed programs list, click the earlier version of the Office program that you no longer want on the computer, and then click Remove to uninstall.

To resolve the issue that was described in Scenario 2, use one of the following methods:

Method 1
Install the recommended update even if the feature is not being used.

Method 2
To prevent the update from installing on your computer, click to clear the check box for the update on the Office Update detection results list. Only install the updates that you want. The next time that you visit the Office Update site, the update you chose not to install will be recommended again.

When you try to upgrade Microsoft Office XP Students and Teachers edition to an upgrade version of a 2007 Microsoft Office suite, you receive the following message:

The path you have chosen does not point at a qualifying upgradeable product. Click ‘Retry’ to try again or ‘Cancel’ to quit setup.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Office XP Students and Teachers edition is not a qualifying product for the upgrade version of a 2007 Office product. When you install the upgrade version of the 2007 Office product, the search for qualifying products fails if the following conditions are true:

Office XP Students and Teachers edition is the only Microsoft Office product that is installed on the computer.

No qualifying Microsoft Works products are installed on the computer.

Note The list of products that qualify for the upgrade version of the 2007 Office product incorrectly indicates that Office XP Students and Teachers edition is a qualifying product. The box for the upgrade version of the 2007 Office product states the following:

The enclosed program will search your hard disk to confirm your eligibility for this upgrade. The software will install only if you are a licensed user of one of the following products:

Any 2000 – 2007 Office program or suite

WORKAROUND

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:

When you run a 2007 Microsoft Office program, fonts may not appear as clear as expected.

Note Fonts in a 2007 Office program affect how the following types of text appear:

CAUSE

This issue may occur on some computer monitors that do not automatically show ClearType fonts as clear as expected. For example, this issue may occur more frequently on a computer that has a CRT-based display.

Note ClearType fonts are optimized to appear clearer on LCD displays and flat-panel displays, but may vary based on user experience. Therefore, some fine-tuning of the ClearType fonts may be necessary for you to view the ClearType fonts as clear as expected.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one or more of the following methods.

Method 1: Run the ClearType Tuning tool

The ClearType Tuning tool is a Microsoft Windows PowerToy that lets you turn on ClearType settings and adjust the settings by using Control Panel.

To download the ClearType Tuning tool, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

http://www.microsoft.com/typography/ClearTypePowerToy.mspx (http://www.microsoft.com/typography/ClearTypePowerToy.mspx)

Method 2: Turn off ClearType fonts

Note We do not recommend that you turn off ClearType fonts.

The 2007 Office programs have been optimized to use ClearType fonts. This is especially true in Microsoft Office Word 2007. ClearType fonts are always used in Reading Layout view.

If you turn off ClearType fonts in one of the 2007 Office programs, ClearType fonts are turned off in all the 2007 Office programs. If you run the 2007 Office programs on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, text in the 2007 Office programs is rendered by using ClearType fonts regardless of the system setting. If you do not want to use ClearType fonts, you can turn them off, and the 2007 Office programs will follow the system setting. If you are running Windows Vista, the 2007 Office programs will always follow the system setting.

Note ClearType fonts make text easier to read. If you change this setting, you must restart the 2007 Office program for the change to take effect.

To turn off ClearType fonts in a 2007 Office program, use one of the following methods:

MORE INFORMATION

In Microsoft Office XP and in the 2007 Microsoft Office programs, you can use the Open dialog box to connect to an FTP site on the Internet and a local intranet. To do this, follow these steps:

1.

In Office XP, click Open on the File menu.In the 2007 Office programs, click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Open.

2.

If the FTP site to which you want to connect is listed, click the name of the FTP site in the Look in box.If the FTP site is not listed, click Add/Modify FTP Locations.

The contents of the FTP site are listed in the Open dialog box. You can open folders and files as if they were stored on your local hard disk.

When you access an external FTP site through Internet Explorer, only the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) proxy settings must be correct. This is true because Internet Explorer uses the HTTP protocol, the standard protocol for accessing information on the World Wide Web, to emulate FTP when you connect to an FTP site.

Office programs require that the FTP proxy settings be correct when you access an external FTP site. This is required because these programs do not use the HTTP protocol to emulate FTP. Instead, the FTP proxy settings are used.

If you click to select the Use the same proxy server for all protocols check box in the Internet Options Control Panel, you may not be able to access external FTP sites with Office programs.

This article describes how to uninstall the existing 2007 Microsoft Office system if you cannot uninstall it by using the Add or Remove Programs feature in Control Panel.

If you want to reinstall the 2007 Office system, we recommend that you first uninstall it by using the Add or Remove Programs feature in Control Panel. When this method is successful, the 2007 Office system is completely uninstalled.

However, you may be unable to successfully uninstall the 2007 Office system by using this method. For example, you may experience issues with the Add or Remove Programs dialog box. Or, some 2007 Office components may not be uninstalled. In these cases, you may be unable to reinstall the 2007 Office system.

This article describes an alternative method that you can use to uninstall the existing 2007 Office system. After you use this alternative method, you can reinstall the 2007 Office system.

Note You should not use this alternative method instead of the recommended method. This is because the alternative method does not completely uninstall the 2007 Office system.

INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to add clip art to Microsoft Clip Organizer in a 2007 Microsoft Office system and in Microsoft Office 2003. If you do not have Internet access to the Microsoft Office Online Clip Art and Media Web site, you can install Microsoft Office clip art on a computer or on a network share.

MORE INFORMATION

Clip Organizer contains drawings, photographs, sounds, videos, and other media files. These media files are called clips. A clip is a single media file, such as a sound, an animation, or a piece of art, that you can insert into a Microsoft Office document. You can use clips in presentations, in publications, and in other Office documents. You can use Clip Organizer to browse through clip collections, to add clips, or to catalog clips in ways that make sense to you. For example, you can create a collection to group the clips that you use most frequently. Or, you can let Clip Organizer automatically add and catalog media files on your hard disk.

2007 Office systems

To start Clip Organizer in a 2007 Office application, click the Insert tab. On the Illustrations group, click Clip Art, and then click Organize clips at the bottom of the Clip Art task pane.

Office 2003

To start Clip Organizer, click Organize clips at the bottom of the Clip Art task pane. To display the Clip Art task pane in an Office 2003 program, point to Picture on the Insert menu, and then click Clip Art.

The 2007 Office systems and Office 2003 can directly access thousands of clip art images that are on the Microsoft Office Online Clip Art and Media Web site. You can use a Web browser to search for clip art on the Microsoft Office Online Clip Art and Media Web site. Or, you can search for clip art on the Microsoft Office Online Clip Art and Media Web site from within any Office program. In an Office program, when you point to Picture on the Insert menu and then click Clip Art, the search process automatically accesses the Microsoft Office Online Clip Art and Media Web site. The search results are displayed in the Clip Art pane. To see the clip art images that are on the Microsoft Office Online Clip Art and Media Web site, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

http://office.microsoft.com/clipart (http://office.microsoft.com/clipart)

If you do not have Internet access, you cannot connect to the Microsoft Office Online Clip Art and Media Web site. Even if you have Internet access, access to the Microsoft Office Online Clip Art and Media Web site may be blocked by a firewall on the local network. If you search for clip art by using common terms, such as “dog” or “flag,” you may receive a “(No results found)” message. Or, the search process may find only a few images. In this scenario, if you examine the thumbnails, you will see that none of the thumbnails have a small globe icon in the lower-left corner of the thumbnail. A globe icon on a thumbnail indicates that the clip art was found on the Web.

Clip Organizer also supports searching for clip art in local clip art archives on a computer or in shared clip art archives on a network share. A small amount of sample clip art images was included with Office 2003 and is part of the “local collection” that is searched when you do not have Internet access to the Microsoft Office Online Clip Art and Media Web site. Office 2003 no longer includes a media content CD with additional clip art. However, the Microsoft Office XP Media Content CD can still be installed locally or on a network share. You can use a network share for all Office 2003 installations on client computers. The Office XP Media Content CD contains approximately 35,000 clips that are a subset of the clips that are available on the Microsoft Office Online Clip Art and Media Web site. The Office XP Media Content CD was included with Microsoft Office XP Professional, Microsoft Office XP Standard, and Microsoft Publisher 2002 Deluxe Edition.

How to perform a local installation of the contents of the Office XP Media Content CD

To install the contents of the Office XP Media Content CD on a computer, follow these steps:

1.

Exit all programs that are running.

2.

Insert the Office XP Media Content CD into the CD drive or into the DVD drive. Hold down the SHIFT key to prevent the program from automatically starting. If Microsoft Windows Installer automatically starts, click Cancel.

3.

Click Start, click Run, type the following command, and then click OK:msiexec.exe /i <var>CD_drive</var>:\CAG.MSI ADDLOCAL=ALL /qbNotes

When you type the command, include the spaces, as shown.

How to perform a network installation of the contents of the Office XP Media Content CD

To install the contents of the Office XP Media Content CD on a network share, you must copy the contents of the Office XP Media Content CD to the network share. After the contents have been copied to the network share, on each client computer that you want to use to access the content, follow these steps:

1.

Exit all programs that are running.

2.

Click Start, click Run, type the following command, and then click OK:msiexec.exe /i \\<var>Network_server</var>\<var>share</var>\CAG.MSI ADDSOURCE=ALL /qb

This command causes the content to remain on the network share. The content can be accessed from the UNC location \\<var>Network_server</var>\<var>share</var>. However, if you want to copy the content to the client computer, change the “ADDSOURCE=ALL” command-line parameter to “ADDLOCAL=ALL.”

This article contains the latest information about how to use Office with the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in.

MORE INFORMATION

To work around the issues that are listed in the “Summary” section, use either of the following methods.

Method 1: Run Live Update

Obtain the latest version of the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in that is available through the Live Update option site in your Norton AntiVirus software.

Note An update to the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in may not be available in all languages.

Method 2: Disable Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in

Perform this method only if you cannot update your Norton AntiVirus software through the Live Update Web site.
Important These steps may increase your security risk. These steps may also make the computer or the network more vulnerable to attack by malicious users or by malicious software such as viruses. We recommend the process that this article describes to enable programs to operate as they are designed to or to implement specific program capabilities. Before you make these changes, we recommend that you evaluate the risks that are associated with implementing this process in your particular environment. If you decide to implement this process, take any appropriate additional steps to help protect the system. We recommend that you use this process only if you really require this process.Note An antivirus program is designed to protect your computer from viruses. You must not download or open files from sources that you do not trust, visit Web sites that you do not trust, or open e-mail attachments when your antivirus program is disabled.

When the Norton AntiVirus plug-in is disabled, the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in does not scan documents when you open the documents. Even if the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in is disabled, the Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect feature still provides ongoing protection by scanning any file that you run, download, open, create, or delete.

To disable the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in, use one of the following methods, depending on the version of Norton AntiVirus that is installed on your computer.
Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

We do not recommend this workaround but are providing this information so that you can implement this workaround at your own discretion. Use this workaround at your own risk.

The Personalized Menus and Toolbars feature evaluates what menu commands you use. Additionally, this feature displays only those items that you use most frequently on a shortened version of each menu. By default, when you click a menu and then rest the mouse pointer over the menu title, the menu expands and displays all the menu items.

Note The menu expands only if the Show full menus after a short delay option is selected.

Similarly, toolbars intelligently share space on the screen based on the toolbar buttons that you use most frequently. Therefore, toolbar buttons are promoted or demoted (displayed or hidden) based on a hierarchy that enables multiple toolbars to share a single row. When you click the slider button (>>) on a toolbar, the complete toolbar is quickly displayed. After you click a specific toolbar button, that button is added to the visible part of the toolbar.

Note When a recently used button is added to the visible part of the toolbar, a toolbar button that is not recently used may be moved to the hidden part of the toolbar.

This article discusses the supported installation methods for 2007 Microsoft Office suites.

MORE INFORMATION

To install a 2007 Office suite on a workstation, use one of the following supported methods:

Run Setup from a 2007 Office CD.

Run Setup from a server where a network image or a compressed CD image of the 2007 Office programs is stored. This image includes tools that large organizations may use to run the Microsoft Office Setup program such as Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS).

Use Group Policy to assign or to publish a 2007 Office suite on computers that have Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, or Windows Vista installed.Note You can install a 2007 Office suite on a dual-boot computer.

The following installation methods are supported only if you are using the Microsoft Professional Support offering and if the deployment is part of an Office Deployment Advisory Service (ODAS) case.

Create and distribute a custom CD that is based on the 2007 Office CD.

Create a system image (copy), and then replicate the image on the users’ computers.

To create a system image that includes the 2007 Office programs, and to replicate that image on the target computers, follow these steps:

1.

Perform a clean installation of the operating system. To install a 2007 Office suite, the computer must be running one of the following operating systems:

Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later versions of Windows XP

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or later versions of Windows Server 2003

Microsoft Windows Vista or later versions of Windows

2.

Perform a clean installation of the 2007 Office suite with the features and preferences that you want.

3.

Create a system image of the computer. This image can be a partition image or a full hard disk image.

4.

Then, replicate the system image on the target computers.

Note You must create the image on a computer where the hardware resembles the target computers. Also, the computer must be running the same operating system that is running on the target computers.

Microsoft cannot fully support image installations that are created by using a third-party utility because Microsoft cannot guarantee that a third-party product will successfully install a 2007 Office suite. We cannot guarantee that a third-party product will accurately install all the necessary files to the correct locations or that the third-party product will create all the required registry entries.

Product Support Engineers can provide only commercially reasonable effort support on the actual image file that is used to install a 2007 Office suite. Product Support Engineers will continue to support the 2007 Office applications, and the deployment of those applications that are listed under supported methods. However, support for the actual image will be limited to commercially reasonable effort only. Commercially reasonable effort support for the image file includes troubleshooting and reverse engineering troubleshooting.

Note The method of reverse engineering troubleshoots installation by removing non-Microsoft components or by removing individual Microsoft components.

Troubleshooting an installation of Office

If you have problems running the 2007 Office Setup program, contact Microsoft Product Support Services. If you have problems installing 2007 Microsoft Office suites by using a Microsoft utility other than the Setup program, contact the correct Microsoft product support group. If you are using a third-party utility, contact the manufacturer of that product.

Use the following methods to troubleshoot problems that you have when you install a 2007 Office suite:

If the problem is corrected, the previous method of installing Office was not successful. If you used a third-party utility, contact the manufacturer of that utility.
