In Windows Vista, when you pause video in an application that uses version 7 of the Video Mixing Renderer (VMR7), the application may crash.

Software developers can work around this problem by using version 9 of the Video Mixing Renderer (VMR9) or the Enhanced Video Renderer (EVR) to render video.

VRM7, VMR9, and EVR are different mechanisms for rendering video in Windows-based applications. This problem occurs only when video playback is paused. This problem does not occur when a complete video is played or when playback is stopped.
